How to use a Custom Domain Name on Blogger

Hello Build Your Blog Conference readers! Many of you are using a URL which is great. But what if I told you it was really easy to use a what ever domain you want instead of that address? Best of all you can get your very own domain for <$10 per year and continue using Blogger as your template and management system.
I know this post has a lot of pictures but I promise you that you will be able to set up your account in less than 30 minutes and have your very own domain name. Think about it how cool would it be if you had your very own domain. J
Best of all if you already have a URL you can easily change over to without your visitors even knowing! When to transfer you will still control your blog through your normal Blogger account, it will even have the same design.
The process is actually very easy and it starts with registering a domain name. I like to use GoDaddy because they have a very easy set-up that anyone can use. When you do register your domain name always check for a coupon code! You should never pay full price when buying a new domain, for example right now “199NUTS” will get you your domain for $1.99 for the first year. Your price will then go up to about $10 per year.
When you are registering your domain, GoDaddy will try to get you to buy hosting or other add-ons, YOU DON’T NEED ANY OF THESE! Just say no! All you need to make this work is your domain name. So buy your domain name and move onto the steps below.
Step 1 — Update your Blogger settings to use your custom domain.
To get started you will need to log into your Blogger account. You will see the following screenshot below. Simply follow steps 1 and 2 to get started.
This new page will open up when you click “Settings”.

Here you will add your domain you would like to use.

Clicking “Save” will open up this new box. Make sure you copy the information highlighted.

Open a new window and go to your GoDaddy account.

Step 2 – Make some changes to your domain.
Log into your Godaddy account and you will see the following screenshot (but with your name).

Click “Save Zone File” after you make the changes.

Click “Save Zone File” after you make the changes.
You are almost there and here is your last step to set up your own domain on Blogger. Go back to Blogger and click save on your blog update. See the screen below.
That’s it you’re done! Now it can take between 24-48 hours for your domain to begin sending traffic automatically from your old domain to the new one. But don’t worry it will work, in most cases you will actually see it working right away.

If you have any problems at all following the steps or questions please leave a comment below and I will do my best to help you. If there are enough requests I can also create a quick video on how to change your domain, just let me know what you would like to see.
